MITCHELL JAY RABIN, M.A., L.AC., was born in Forest Hills, New York and grew up in Westport, Ct., where he was exposed to a variety of offerings fairly early in life. His mother raised him on existentialism and theater of the absurd, and his formal education was liberal and fostered independent thinking. As a result, Mitchell began studying yoga at age 13, marching in environmental and peace demonstrations at 14 and reading Lao-Tse and the Upanishads by 16. Enlightenment and social activism were his vital interests from an early age.
Mitchell graduated from Bard College with a B.A., with a major in ancient literature and a minor in theater and dance. He then attended Antioch/New England Graduate School, Keene, NH and graduated with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology. As an outgrowth of his study of the ancient Chinese art T’ai-Chi Chuan, Mitchell began studying Chinese medicine and acupuncture at the Tri-State Institute of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in NYC, became nationally certified in 1984, and licensed in 1992.
Mitchell worked in private practice as a holistic and eco-oriented psychotherapist, acupuncturist, educator and entrepreneur beginning in the early ‘80’s and opened The Center for Creative Well-Being, a rejuvenation/healing Center in NYC using floatation tank therapy and sound for stress reduction in 1989. The Center was quite well-known in the larger NY tri-state area and attracted the attention of many. At this time, Mitchell was asked to teach for the radio celebrity, author and health activist Gary Null, with whom he worked for several years in NY, NJ and at the Healing Springs Ranch outside Dallas, Texas. Mitchell lectured, conducted workshops and did a good number of radio and TV interviews, including the first special Gary did for PBS.
In 1993, having recognized the growing need for high-quality self-empowering information and inspiration to be conveyed to large numbers of people over the air-waves, Mitchell began hosting and producing the community cable TV show A Better World, first aired in Manhattan, and now aired in a number of cities across the country. A Better World has also been aired on radio on Pacifica radio WKPFK in L.A. and Radio for Peace International, Costa Rica, on short-wave to over 120 countries. It is now additionally aired weekly on-line across the world.
In 1993, witnessing the unceasing destruction of our precious earth and environment, Mitchell founded The Ecology Institute, designed to promote technologies that engaged non-chemical, all-natural treatment of water and fuel using magnetic fields for the commercial, industrial and residential sectors. TEI’s distribution network made installations at such places as IBM, Coco-Cola, the NY Hilton, water treatment plants, dye and food-processing plants and numerous buildings all over the greater New York area to name a few. As a result, while the problem remains enormous, there is less chemicalization of our water supply. The use of this technology to protect our water and environment continues through today (see Wellness-Eco Products).
In the last several years, Mitchell has gotten involved in state-of-the-art holistic healing and Energetic Balancing, computer-based technologies that are designed to bring balance back to an individual’s energy field, thereby re-establishinghomeostasis by reducing stress and clearing the field of imbalancing, blocking frequencies. The results have been excellent in bringing greater harmony and well-being to the emotional, psychological, physical and the spiritual lives of the individuals who have used this service. He has become known in the U.S. and other countries for this work.
Mitchell has been practicing T’ai-Chi Chuan since 1976 when he studied with Professor Ching Man-Ching’s leading students on the Bowery in Chinatown, Lou Kleinsmith, Bob Lumisch, et al, which he has also taught. Mitchell has also been involved in the Gurdjieff Work, Tibetan Buddhism, Sivananda Yoga, the Santo Daime Church of Brazil and Taoism, to name a few of his deeper plunges upon the path. He is an instructor in the Healing Tao. Mitchell has also been teaching Writing as a Sacred Discipline and Therapeutic theater at the Sivananda Yoga Ranch in Woodbourne, NY for the past several years.
Most recently, the crowning jewel of Mitchell’s inner life came in a visit to Sri Kalki, simply known as Bhagavan, outside Madras in South India. Here his consciousness was awakened to a point of establishing a new level of subtle ongoing awareness. (See www.trueawakening.org ).
Mitchell is in private practice as a therapist, Energy-Balancing practitioner and stress management consultant in NYC. He teaches, writes and is completing his second book for publication called Creating A Better World Quickly! He is one of 10 trainers of The LIFE System, and one of the first to operate the Universal Energetic Balancing Program.
